Tender Exchange: A New Ritual Artwork Commissioned for 2026

We’re delighted to share that Radical Ritual has been commissioned by Without Walls, Brighton Festival, Activate Performing Arts, Stockton International Riverside Festival, and Freedom Festival to create a new participatory ritual artwork: Tender Exchange.

Tender Exchange is a quietly radical folk ritual that centres trust, listening, and care. Carved wooden hearts move hand-to-hand through festival spaces, inviting participants to whisper something that matters to them — a hope, a memory, a truth, or a feeling they wish to share. As each heart gathers voices, it becomes a vessel for collective experience, holding what is offered with care.

Through these small, intimate exchanges, Tender Exchange creates moments of connection between strangers, offering space for generosity, vulnerability, and the quiet courage of being heard. One exchange at a time, the work gathers what’s in people’s hearts and holds it together.

Tour Dates

  • 9–10 May — Norfolk & Norwich Festival

We’re deeply grateful to our commissioning partners and collaborators, and to everyone who will take part by carrying a heart, whispering into it, and passing it on.
